The One With Secret Ingredient – Hong Kong Home Cooking Re-invented

I have been keeping a secret.

For months now I have been cooking well at home and eating like a king. Friends were constantly amazed by my supposed culinary skills, whipping up dishes after beautiful dishes of delicious food in seemingly no time at all.

At first, I wanted to keep mum about my new found “talent”. But, like they say, joy shared is joy doubled, and who am I kidding? I am no whiz in the kitchen. Like many other happy fans and foodies, I have discovered the joy of the ever popular Secret Ingredient.

The idea is simple: You go online to select from their amazing menu of wonderful dishes. This is changed constantly, at times in collaboration with hot restaurants in town. Once you choose your meal, the ingredients will be delivered to your doorstep, just in time for dinner!

All you have to do next is to familiarise yourself with the cleverly labeled ingredients, and follow the idiot-proof recipe. Sure, your first time is bound to be bumpy. I was nervous as hell, and I kept checking my timer to ensure I didn’t burn my chicken, but in the end everything turned out beautifully.

Since verything was marinated, chopped and prepared by the good folks of Secret Ingredient, there was hardly anything you need to get ready for, save for some basic kitchen apparatus… and perhaps some courage and faith that it will all turn out well!

Last I counted, I have bought at least nine meals from Secret Ingredient, with no sign of slowing down. Check out this slide show showing one of my cooking experience with Secret Ingredient: lamb chops with couscous salad, lemon vinaigrette and yoghurt sauce.

Verdict? Wake up that inner chef and cook up a storm the easy way with Secret Ingredient. Dinner at home will never be the same again.
