The One With Meet Me At The Cupcake Café By Jenny Colgan

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan. What was it like?

It’s like…

… the feel of warm, buttery toasts at the end of a long, diet week
… the overarching rainbow at the end of a wet, dreary rain
… the make-up sex after a bitter show down between estranged lovers

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan

Oh yes, this shot was by me.

A synopsis of the sugar-sweet take of love, friends and (but of course) cupcakes:

Issy Randall can bake. No, more than that – Issy can create stunning, mouth-wateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe’s bakery she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. So when she’s made redundant from her safe but dull City job, Issy decides to seize the moment and open up her own café. It should be a piece of cake, right?

Wrong. As her friends point out, she has trouble remembering where she left her house keys, let alone trying to run her own business. But Issy is determined. Armed with recipes posted to her from Grampa, and with her local bank manager fighting her corner, Issy attempts to prove everyone wrong. Following your dreams is never easy and this is no exception.

I had never liked a book which narrates from different character’s perspective, but this charming book, at some 450 pages, had won me over. Yes, it was a little over the top, what with every other character mentioned had some role or other to play towards the happy ending.

But hey isn’t that what a holiday read is for?

And it certainly got me going crazy with cupcakes. Not as in eating, but baking. The book is packed with delicious cupcake recipes and, like what Colgan said, don’t let the bakeries fool you; baking cupcake is easy.

I see many cupcake-filled days ahead. Thanks to Martin for the Dymocks gift card which got me this book!
