The One With The Funny (Fake) Twitter @BPGlobalPR

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have probably heard about the oily disaster that engulfs the Gulf of Mexico. Everything is looking bleak at the moment; the people are angry, the environmentalists are up in arms, the government is desperate and the folks at BP (who runs the leaking well) are scurrying around like headless chicken.

But someone is taking a funny spin on the whole thing, which turns out the be a pretty good attempt. Enter the fwitter (stands for fake Twitter) @BPGlobalPR. In mere days this account garnered thousands of following.

It is not difficult to see why.

The One With The Latest Fitness Regime Update

The One With The Latest Fitness Regime Update

Please excuse this egocentric post, but some things need to be blogged down.

It has been a good two years since the last time I did a milestone check on my fitness regime. Granted, over the past 24 months I had too many lapses in my diet I care to count. At times I missed weeks of gym sessions, especially when I took off for backpacking holidays.

So when I asked my current trainer about taking a check, he did it the manual way and told me my current measurements. I can’t remember when was the last time I did it, or what the measurements (weight in kg, and percentage of body fat) were, so I had to dig out through my old blog posts.

Here’s what I found.

17/1/08 – 84.2 kg, 31.7%
2/2/08 – 81.2 kg, 29.2%
19/2/08 – 81.1 kg, 24.3%
17/4/08 – 78.6 kg, 26.1%
17/6/08 – 77.0 kg, 26.9%

And after a lapse of two years…

19/5/10 – 69.0 kg, 20.4%

So after two and a half years, I managed to shed a total of 15.2 kg, and a reduction of 11.3% body fat.

Tonight is a happy night.

The One With The Ten Things To Do Before I Hit 35

The One With The Ten Things To Do Before I Hit 35

I was looking through some notes I made on iGoogle, and came across this list of ten things I wanted to do before I hit 35:

1) Scale Mt. Kinabalu
2) Visit New York (I did in April 2010, blogging still in progress)
3) Start down payment for a house. Or a car.
4) Go for London 2012 Olympic Games
5) Run a full marathon of 42.5 km
6) Skydiving (?)
7) Diving (?)

And then I realised I have spot for three more. LOL. Anyone want to suggest anything?

The One With The Self-Made Inspirational Quote

The One With The Self-Made Inspirational Quote

In a spurt of the moment one morning, I came up with a quote of my own doing:

“Self confidence is not a gift; it’s a habit. Start believing in yourself today”

Since then, several people have liked and republished the quote on Facebook and Twitter. I hope this post will inspire you too.

It begins with you.

The One With The Letter To My 16-Year-Old Self

The One With The Letter To My 16-Year-Old Self

Dear Me,

Hi! This is your 30-year-old self writing. You’ll never guess, but fourteen years from now, there is this book which got insanely popular and inspired thousands to write a letter to their younger selves.

So don’t worry, you are not getting any crazier than you already are. You are just trying to blend in with the crowd.

Surprised that you are still doing that? I know… right now, you are still trying to figure out who you are, and how to fit in with your new classmates. Guess what… you will still be doing that when you are 20. Or 30.

The One With The (Somewhat New) Brand Hong Kong

The One With The (Somewhat New) Brand Hong Kong

It seems that there were some backlashes from the online community on the newly redesigned “Brand Hong Kong” movement. To the uninitiated, this is a government branding campaign to attract talent, investment and… something else which I couldn’t remember, to Hong Kong.

(The fact that I couldn’t remember the third factor says something about the campaign, which was under heavy spotlight recently, intentionally or not).

Well, I like to think I am a talent to Hong Kong, and decided to take a look at the campaign objectively.

The One With Social Media & Job Hunting

The One With Social Media & Job Hunting

I was amused, tickled and exasperated in equal measures reading this article by ZDNet Asia – Job hunters should avoid risky online behavior. In summary, the article claimed that job seekers should avoid putting themselves at risk by publishing inappropriate material on their social profiles, as employers have been found to reject possible candidates based on what they found online.

Now wait a minute. Are you saying that I should block/censor/vet every single tweet, status update, photos, shoutouts and checkins I do online so that my future in my next job would not be compromised?

You gotta be kidding me.

The One With Babies And Servers

The One With Babies And Servers

I was talking about babies with my colleague Sophia, and what she wrote about a conversation she had got me burst out laughing. I can simply imagine how that conversation went:

Sophia’s Friend (SF): Now, isn’t a mother breastfeeding her baby an adorable thing…
Sophia (S): (Interrupts) Well, that’s just what I couldn’t understand…
SF: Couldn’t understand what?
S: Why can’t we just hook the babies up with a feed of milk?
SF: Hook up to what?
S: You know, a feed of milk. Regulated by timer, controlled by thermostats for optimal milk temperature… possibly protected with some sort of anti virus thingy…
SF: (Incredulous) Sophia, babies are not servers!

To put context to this joke, Sophia is an all round Internet expert. Hence.

Oh, we digital product folks are simply a unique breed. We really are.

The One With The Guide To Not Checking Email

The One With The Guide To Not Checking Email

Two years ago I wrote about the low information diet, a practice which encourage you to check emails only twice a day (link to free ebook), and therefore getting more things done in a day. My experiment was successful to some extent; that is, until my boss wrote to me that she was not comfortable with my autoresponders and asked me to do away with it.

Bummer.

The One With John Burroughs High School’s Show Choir – Powerhouse

I first came across this video of John Burroughs High School’s show choir performing on Oprah a few days ago. Since then I have been rewatching this spectacular performance – all two minutes of it – every day without fail.

Especially when my energy is dipping. There’s something about a choreographed group performance like this which gets my blood pumping.

The choreography, the voice talent, the costume… all spoke how the high quality show choirs in the States. In fact, Powerhouse was the inspiration behind the highly successful TV series, Glee.

Watch this; you’ll know what I mean.

I was so impressed by the choir that I wrote in to ask if they have their videos compiled in DVD form. They responded that most of their best performances are on YouTube, but if I would like to get a momento, you can get it through their website.

I am going to order one; are you? If you are, buzz me here so that we can order together and save some shipping cost.

Now let me get all Vogue-ed up again!
