The One With Indian Food At The Chapel – Surprising Find In The Valley

Hello there! Did you miss me, and my blog? I missed you. My apologies for the lack of updates in recent weeks. What with me moving from my old haunt to Happy Valley, and the avalanche at work, I find myself hard pressed to find time to blog.

But that does not mean I lack of material to blog. Oh no. If my expanding waistline is of any indication, I had too much material to blog about.

Well, I gotta start somewhere. So let me introduce you to a gem of a find I was introduced to right here in Happy Valley, called The Chapel.

The Chapel is rightfully a bar, but a large sign right outside claim it serves some of the best Indian food in town. On any other occasion, I would have hesitated (great food in a neighbourhood bar, really?) but this was recommended to me by a foodie who knows her stuff.

So in I went one fine weekday night, and I was not disappointed!

Roasted Popadam (HKD6)

Dinner at The Chapel

I was overjoyed when I found this place serves real popadam. For the uninitiated, that crispy lentil flour wafer with more than just a tad of spice in it. Served with a side of mint sauce, I was transported right back to the time in Malaysia when I can devour a tin of popadam all by myself.

I was that much of a glutton.

The One With Gusto – All Things Hearty & Enjoyable

Update: Gusto is now no longer in operation.

Home comfort food. Hmmm. In addition to simply cooked but delicious food, a restaurant has to be set up “just right” to provide that vibe of comfort and homeliness for its patrons, whom may turn up as if they just got out of bed.

Hearty Dinner At Gusto

Not that I have seen any of sleep-ware while I was at Gusto recently. The small restaurant, tucked discreetly at Happy Valley, was a gem of a find. Literally. The signboard was discreetly displayed in dark colours (errr, why?) so it can be an adventure to find if you are visiting after dark.

Word from the wise: Bring with you the actual address.

And what a find it was. Comprising of two floors, the place was impeccably designed but not in-your-face kind of way. You get the feel that you are at a classy place, but you wouldn’t mind turning up in your slippers and a hood.

I particularly like the lighting fixtures. It was so… industrial, but classy.

The One With The Chinese Dinner At Dai Xiu Ye, Happy Valley

It is not everyday when you can equate Happy Valley with affordable Chinese dinner. It is also not every day that I ventured to this part of the town in the middle of the week, so I decided to make the best out of it and tried Dai Xiu Ye (literally translated as The Eldest Prince).

That, and also I owe my friend a dinner, heh.
