The long, long journey of being the one and only me

My beautiful Sunday

Today I want to talk about my Sunday.

It started beautifully with my alarm clock waking me up at 9.30 a.m. Usually I do not wake up until past lunchtime, but today I have to wake up early because I promised Sam that I will meet him at Toa Payoh for a gym session.

A day that started off with me getting off “at the wrong side of the bed”, although my bed is placed against the wall, turned out to be one of the most beautiful Sunday I had in 2005.

It had been a long time since I last been to a gym. So it caught me by surprise when I managed to complete the full 20 minutes workout session on the threadmill and the stationary bike. I clocked a grand total 600 kCal, excluding the full reps I did on leg press and arm pull.

I am very happy with my achievement. It was also very great to see my old pal, Sam. After an hour or so at the gym, we headed to a nearby hawker center for lunch. We took some nice, unpretentious, unedited photographs here:

I think Sam is going to kill me for putting up such an unflattering pic of him. But hey it is better the truth than untruths, right? Uh-oh, I think I have just increased the possibility of Sam murdering me by another notch.

We decided to go home after lunch, and walked pass Toa Payoh Central. There was this Kid Soccer Tournament going on, and oh boy those kids on the mini soccer pitch are darn cute! Dressed in complete soccer outfit with jerseys several size too big for them, the kids played like pro. The adults around them cheered their favorite team on loudly, grinning from ear to ear all the time. Perhaps this is what fun was – an unpretentious time when everyone let their hair down for some moments of fun, away from worries of the world..

On my way home, the weather took an abrupt change from a sunny Sunday to a gloomy Sunday. The laden looking cloud, accompanied by strong wind and occassional thunder over at my part of the island looked scary. But I was not scared. Despite leaves and rubbish swirling around me in mad tornadoes, I look up in wonder at the rolling clouds, enjoying the stream of fresh air billowing past my face. And I took a pic to commemorate the magical moment, when I was one with nature.

Later that evening, I decided to meet up with Tony & Terence for a drink. I bought this can of Gatsby Heavy Duty Clay to style up my newly coloured hair. My existing bottle of hair gel gave me too much of a sensitive scalp. After many punctured pimples later, I decided to try out the clay. Oh, by the way, I love my new hair colour. I spent 3 hours sitting at my hairdresser colouring my hair in three tones – chestnut brown, ash, and metallic ash.

Actually, I am a prime candidate for Yunnan Hair Center, as my pic below shows:

I met Terence and Tony at the chic looking Mox Cafe & Bar at Tanjong Pagar. I simply love that place. Where else can you sit on (almost) authentic retro furniture, sipping your favorite drink, chatting with your friends with non-defeaning jazz music in your ears? The crowd was respectable, although Mox’s natural crowd was somewhat, err, unnatural. Took many photos here as well.

If you noticed, actually I have written this entry like a kid in primary school. I did this because I have a point to make. You need not try too hard to sound too cool by using all kind of complicated words to intimidate your “opponent”. Instead of sounding too clever for you own good, you ended up failing to convey your intended message and making a complete ass out of yourself, demeaning the professional communication education you are going through.

Oh, if you failed to understand my post, or think my style of writing is too childish for you, I am sorry. Not because of my inability to write better, but because you are not my intended audience.

Tralala. Happy Sunday!

Happy Birthday, Benjie!

Skinny Legged Lion in Drag

Have you ever wonder why the heavily sequinned and colourfully painted Chinese lion dance are called, well, lion?

First of all, real lions don’t have horn. These Chinese ones spot oneon top of their head. Maybe they are cross-bred between a unicorn and a lion. Secondly, I am pretty sure real lion doesn’t use mascara. Look at those elaborate, long eye lashes! Even if they do, what lions will apply white mascara and risked looking like Saruman dragging in sequined costume?

Anyway. I am raving. Have not been able to sleep for the past 72 hours. Goodness know why. Have to resort to see doctors and get sleeping pills. Guess after this I will just pop it and sleep.

Some photos for today, lion included. With skinny legs, I must add. Plus a “backside” than keep flipping the skirt up for air.

Lion Dance
The most masculine post I can find for this lion(ess)

Lion Dance
Giving the term “self gratifaction” a whole new meaning

My Lunch
As disgusting as my lunch looks, it was absolutely delicious
And thank goodness I had this before meeting the lion

Ain't that straight
Senseless shot. My PC full of these kind of photos

Office Tower
My office tower. I mean, as in not mine, but where my
office is located at. And, nope, I’m not with Manulife.

I, Confused Zombie

Last night I didn’t managed to catch much sleep. In fact I doubt I slept at all. Deep sleep that is. I remember at 3 in the morning I am still awake, and I am up from my bed by 6. Didn’t straight away go to work though – spend some time replying to an email from the blog designer I hired on Chris’ webby.

So I thought it will be a dead but walking zombie for the rest of the day (so much for setting examples for staff to follow)

I was pretty much in a stupor at work today, but surprisingly I was pretty productive. Pulled out several outstanding tasks, and made some head way in planning some strategy for my team.

I was feeling pretty alright when I was on my way to my first class at MDIS Bugis. Print Media. I dread going for class. But it is the first class – I gotta go and get my study book (it has a strange habit of getting out of stock very fast), and I couldn’t really excuse myself from anymore classes now I am taking only one class per sem.

On the way to class, I noticed that the new NLB building is almost up. Look pretty majestic. Singaporeans’ tax dollar hard at work.

Surprisingly my class was very entertaining. Credit goes to the amusing lecturer in a self depreciating way. Although I was very much stoned, I still able to learn some stuff from the mess of his endless jokes. Man, that man is a nutter. From making crude jokes of himself, tsunami hitting Sentosa Cove, cat/dog/mouse walk, the totally irrelevant link between ZhaoBao and WanBao and Cha Siew Bao… but he is hitting home.

I guess I might just enjoy my classes for one. =)

And I am in for a surprise! Remember Nathaniel Ho from Singapore Idol top 30? He is in my class! He came late and the class was almost packed to the max, so he had to walk in front of the class to get a chair and find a seat… and I knew that some of us in class recognised him.

Nathaniel Ho

He looks MUCH better in real person. Suspiciously plucked eyebrow, sharp nose, delicate features… quite an eligible bachelor, I must say. Camera and TV don’t do him justice.

3 hours later, I am on my way home. I was very much asleep by then, but the NLB building attracted my attention again.

NLB by Night

And now here I am after 12 a.m. and I haven’t even started updating and sites. Think I’ll just upload the magazine scans and do it tomorrow.

So I am NOT a walking zombie afterall. But damn, I am tired!

Happy Valentines Day

Today is the last day for Thet to be in office before he goes for his extended leave. Being the nice manager I am (plus the fact that Thet is my good friend), I brought the whole department to eat 5-Star chicken rice down the road from our office.

Thet, the only Myanmar guy in the office

My whole department = a grand total of 3 person =)

Anyway, when it comes to eating, I realized guys nowadays don’t seem to say things guys used to say:

Me: Let’s see… shall we have half a chicken?
T: (Doubtful) Urm… sure can finish or not? Maybe too much
Z: (Pull a face) Urgh. Anything lo…
Me: (Flipping menu) Okay… let’s have this homemade tofu, and this vege dish
T: (Pull another face)
Z: I go make a call
T: Sure can finish or not?
Me: Tsk. Not as if you all are small eaters.

You know, not too long ago before metrosexualism and slimming became all the fads, guys would be saying things like this.

Me: Let’s see… shall we have half a chicken?
T: (Doubtful) Urm… sure enough or not? Maybe too little
Z: (Pull a face) Urgh. I think better order one whole chicken
Me: (Flipping menu) Okay… let’s have this homemade tofu, and this vege dish
T: (Pull another face) I also want sambal kangkung and that chicken intestines
Z: I go make a call. Order extra rice for me, hor
T: Sure enough or not?
Me: Tsk. Ok lah all order extra large rice.

Anyway! So I ended up ordering quite a number of dishes. All small portions, just to make sure these guys won’t say their manager is torturing them to become dumplings like he is

Before lunch...
Sumptuous spread

Not bad eh. And less than half an hour later…

Polished plates and bowls

Like I said, guys will be guys. Tsk.

After such an early lunch, we went back to office for one last team meeting before Thet goes off. I always kept my meetings below 30 minutes. And usually peppered with laughter and general nonsense (and some stuff I knew would have been better kept to myself. Oops)

The meeting
The pre-meeting jokes

Happy Friendship Day, everyone!

Constantine, Kenny Rogers and Adidas

Went to watch Constantine today. Was meant to watch with a certain someone, but in the end….. anyway! Liping was sporting enough to be the standby, so we went to watch Keanu Reeves blasting his ways through demons, angels and lucifer. Highly comical. Vaguely entertaining. Unworthy of 4-stars. But Keanu, as usual, is cool. Try cursing with your middle finger when you are on your way to heaven *grin*

Dinner was a low key affair at Kenny Rogers (the alarming article on pandemic bird flu did cross my mind, but heck it).

This is Liping

Kenny Rogers
And this is my dinner (feel weird introducing a friend and then my food. hmmm…)

Liping wanted to buy a jersey for Gary *smirk* and ended up splurging a fortune on a blue Japan jersey I recommended! An agonizing half-an-hour later, few things I have learnt about shopping with women:

You get my drift? Oh, she is going to be soooo killing me. Oh, took lots of pictures too. I am such a cam-whore. Or maybe I am not, since I am not in the pics. Here are some pics of scenic Singapore.

Bachelor Chef

Sometimes I amazed at my own ability churning out great dishes using (somewhat dubious) cheap ingredients. I felt so bored of the food at the downstair’s kopitiam, so decided to churn out some nice ones from my own collection of canned/dried/frozen food.

Coooking Rice
I’m bad at cooking rice, but still…

Cooking omeletter… or trying to. Look, I don’t even know how to spell it

Black bean fish
Canned black bean fish. Look VERY oily, but damn, it taste damn good all crispy. Even the beans!

The end product… not bad eh?

Black bean fish
Less stunning, but more tasty

Simply dinner
Settling down for my simple dinner. Total cost < S$5. Who says I can't save money?!

Aldo and I

Few people in my life has come closer than this little cute brother of mine, Aldo. Affectionate, warm and understanding. That’s him on the bright side. Perfectionist the downside. Maybe it’s not that bad after all. Point is, he is leaving end of this month for his student exchange programme in New Zealand. To the land of LOTR! Goodness gonna miss this lil’ brother of mine.

Oh, don’t mind his red eyes. He is not crying. That’s some bloody eyes you are looking at. He just had lasik (his degree is bad, man!) and whoa, Aldo without without his nerdy spec is quite a looker!

Aldo and I
Aldo & I. Perhaps the final pic for many months to come

And I can do better with a few less kgs. As usual

*Roll eyes*

Stay-in CNY

This is how I spent the first day of Lunar New Year….

Liv Tyler
Losing myself once again in the land of Elves

Return of the King DVD
Still an amazing movie. Still made me cry *sob*

Lone Dinner
McDonalds for “reunion” dinner, anyone?

Been working hard on Christopher Lee’s site as well. Somehow doing this site is a breeze compared to the one I did for Taufik. And I have a strange urge to take up Daphne’s one as well!

I told you – I am domain-whore. Wahaha…

My workspace. Messy eh?

More of my workspace…

CNY Arsenal
Lonely CNY ahead. Shops will be closed. So I stock up for a stay-in holiday
