The One With Shopaholic to the Stars – A Novel by Sophie Kinsella

(WARNING: Spoilers ahead)

You know you are reading a masterpiece when a feeling of dread creeps up to you at the final pages.

That’s how it was with Shopaholic to the Stars: A Novel by Sophie Kinsella and me. As I turn to the last page, my heart plummeted knowing that it will be months before I can follow Becky’s next adventure.

Despite what I have heard about Sophie Kinsella’s latest book, I dived into its first chapter with an open mind. 100+ pages in, and I was hooked.

The story is an extraordinary inside scoop of the star-lit life of Hollywood. Red carpet, paparazzi, celebrities… you name it, you got it.

But most importantly, it is also a story of personal struggle, of deciding one’s priorities and values amidst a blindness caused by flirting pleasure and fame. I can understand why some fans disliked the book – Becky was frustratingly straddling between what’s good and what’s right so many times, I feel like slapping her – but in the end the real Becky we have all come to love came back.

Only this time she came back on a red carpet. And then leaving it. Saying farewell to Hollywood. And hello to Las Vegas. I can’t wait.
