The One With Paravion Press By Atlantis Books At Santorini, Greece

After some months of waiting, it is finally here. For some weeks there I thought they have ran away with my money.

Atlantis Books

It was entirely by accident that I discovered Atlantis Books during my excursion around Santorini when I visited Greece in 2008. It was winter, most of the island was deserted and we were desperate for some human contact.

And so when we saw the sign in front of this amazing-looking book shop, which says “we are open if you are open”, how can we resist? We were entranced by how quaint the shop was, how entrepreneurial the owners were, and how captivating the business mission was.

That’s how our love affair with Atlantis Books began. When we got to know they have started a publishing arm, of course we supported their cause. I bought one of the available five choices, On the Decay of the Art of Lying by Mark Twain.

Paravion Press is the publishing imprint of Atlantis Books. They produce handmade editions of short works loved by generations of book lovers. The idea was that, once you have read them you’ll want to share them with someone else, so the books are packaged in envelopes that are ready to mail onward.

Each book is the size of a standard postcard and printed on fine German paper made from woven cannabis and wood pulp. The first page of the book is left clean and reserved for you to write an introductory note before you share the story. The bindings are hand-sewn with needle and thread.
